New UND Program Recommendations (For A Slimmer UND)
Offer language instruction only in areas where a full complement of courses can be offered. Assume state leadership for teaching classical languages, Greek and Latin, through the state Interactive Video Network.
Discontinue languages, such as Arabic, Chinese and Japanese, usually offered by teachers outside the regular faculty.
Offer a single major in philosophy and religion, and teach the disciplines more in cooperation with state university system.
Reconfigure master's and doctorate programs in geology to build more on strengths of Energy and Environmental Research Center and Earth Systems Science Institute and shore up environmental geology.
Develop joint doctoral program in physics with NDSU, or drop the program at UND.
Retain space studies as a graduate aerospace program, but merge it with another department.
Develop a single doctoral program in education, administration with NDSU.
Develop cooperative mechanical engingeering degrees with NDSU.
Limit personnel requests, unless programs are changed, in the following undergraduate degrees. American studies, peace studies, airway computer, science, airway science management, biological and physical sciences, earth science, engineering management, engineering physics, library science and audio visual and vocational marketing education.
